英語のリスニングの一環として、最近はPodcastで English as a Second Language Podcast を聞いています。
所々訳出しが難しい場所は
esl nemo
を参考にしていたのですが、
最近は更新も少なくなってきたので自分で訳を考えるようにしました。
暇なときはなるべく、自分で訳出ししてここにペッって投稿していこうと思います。（どれくらい続くかな。。。）
ざっくりとした訳出しであったり、文化的な背景を考慮できていないので、間違え等々教えて下さいっ＞＜
では、以下です。
Patricia: Hey, look at you! You’re all decked out. What’s the occasion?
「あら、飾り立てて何かのお祝い？」
"look at you"
=>いつもと違う様子が違うときなどに使われる表現。また、何かに注目するとき（してほしいとき）に使う。
"deck out"
=>着飾る。飾り立てる。
"What’s the occasion?"
=>何のお祝い？何かあった？
Renaud: I’m going to the Ortegas’s party. Aren’t you?
「オルテガのパーティに行くのさ。きみも行くでしょう？」
Patricia: Yeah, but I’m not getting all dolled up for it. I think the dress is casual.
「もちろん！でもまだ服が決まらないの。ドレスはカジュアルすぎるし。」
"doll up"
=>美しく着飾る。
Renaud: I heard that it’s going to be an upscale affair and I don’t want to be underdressed.
「品格高めのパーティだって聞いてるから、簡素すぎるのはやめたほうがいいよ。」
"upscale"
=>高級化。
"affair"
=>物事。
"underdressed"
=>軽装すぎる。
Patricia: But I’d rather not be overdressed.
「でも、カッチリ着込みすぎるのも」
"I’d rather（I would rather + 原型）"
=>もし、できることなら～がよい。
"overdressed"
=>入念に着込んだ。
Renaud: Okay, then what are you wearing?
「わかったよ、で、なにを着るのさ？」
Patricia: I’m going to dress up these jeans with a chic blouse. And then I’m going to accessorize with this necklace as a statement piece.
「このジーンズと上品なブラウスを着るわ。ワンポイントにこのネックレスを付けるわ。」
"dress up"
=>正装する。
"chic"
=>上品な。しゃれた。
"accessorize"
=>アクセサリーを付ける。
Renaud: That’s a nice outfit, but it’s more appropriate for a casual event, not a party.
「似合ってるよ。でも、パーティじゃなくてもっとカジュアルな場所にふさわしいよ。」
"appropriate"
=>適切な。ふさわしい。
Patricia: But that’s what I’m trying to tell you. This is not a formal affair.
「あなたに伝えたいことがあるの。これはかしこまったパーティーじゃないの」
Renaud: Do what you like, but I’m not going to risk being inappropriately dressed for one of the Ortegas’s parties. I don’t want to be blacklisted and not be invited in the future. Their parties are legendary, with the best food, the best booze...
「好きなようにしなよ。でもオルテガのパーティーにふさわしくない格好になるようなことはしたくないんだ。ブラックリストに載って、今後招待されないのはいやなんだ。彼らのパーティーは料理もお酒もおいしいので有名なんだ・・・」
"inappropriately"
=>不適切に。ふさわしくない。
Patricia: Oh, you’re right. What was I thinking?!
「そうね。私ったら何を考えていたのかしら。」
